Marlboro State Hospital was a fairly easy institution to navigate via steam tunnels, which is in contrast to most State or County institutions, were the tunnels exist as a crazy labyrinth of underground spaghetti. The network of tunnels at Marlboro basically followed a grid pattern and could be outlined on the surface via where the sidewalks covered. Thus, where ever there was a sidewalk above there was most often a tunnel beneath. This concept can be best seen visually via the below posted historical photograph detailing the original campus buildings.
