Lava Lava

The above rail vehicle known as a hot metal car was used to transport liquid iron to the casting house. The enlarged thermal design of the hot metal car's ladle allowed the liquid iron to remain molten during transport. Unlike the slag car which sports a large open top ladle, the hot metal car contains a smaller opening which could be easily capped off. Below is a picture detailing molten iron being pored into a hot metal car at the Bethlehem Steel Mill.
