Grossinger's was unique because it was designed and operated as a self sufficient resort, powered entirely off of energy generated within the onsite power station. This included utilities such as electric and hot water being pumped to the over 35 various buildings. The massive water boilers and oil tanks situated within the plant were deemed an environmental danger. As a result the power plant was demolished sometime in 2011.
