Hughesville Paper Mill
The Flattener
The monstrous machine was absolutely massive, stretching well over 100 feet in length, while taking up nearly the entire length of the machine hall. It consisted of dozens of huge rolling drums, which would be used to press and squeeze saturated wood pulp into long sheets of paper-like material, which would later be dried and usually dyed into specific grades of paper. This particular device looks to be an old fourdrinier machine and it appeared to be largely powered by steam, and most likely original to the mill.
