Numerous industrial buildings were situated on the island. My friend Lerch who had been out to the island years past told me that during his first visit most of the buildings were still standing as opposed to just the mess of twisted steel they currently remain. It's quite possible the effects of Superstorm Sandy may have collapsed many of the buildings.
