The Fish Factory

Standing on top of a 100,000 gallon oil drum provided an awesome view of the Great Bay. I would assume the massive tanks were utilized to store fish oil, derived from Menhaden, a very boney and oily fish which the factory on the island once processed for its oily attributes. Upon closure of the factory the oil tanks were never emptied, and in 1994 began to leak thick sludgy oil into the bay. The Department of Environmental Protection was called in to pump out and remove the remaining oil from the drums.
